Reign of Talon: Season 3 - Into the Tiger's Den

By Maxime

Hello everyone! Season 3 of Reign of Talon is here with Into the Tiger's Den, taking Overwatch to Tokyo as Shion and the Hashimoto Clan tighten their grip on the city. Blizzard's June 16, 2026 retail patch also refreshes competitive coordination tools and delivers targeted perk adjustments across the roster.

Between the Anima Strike meta event, the return of Community Crafted in Arcade, and quality-of-life updates like The Roster, there is a lot to unpack this season. On OW Perks, our focus remains the perk system: additions, removals, tier swaps, and direct balance changes that affect how you build each hero.

Below is a structured recap of the season highlights, competitive updates, core game changes, and every named hero perk adjustment from the live patch notes.

Season events

Three weeks of story-driven content and side events run alongside the balance patch:

  • Anima Strike (June 16 – July 6). Kiriko and the Yōkai fight the Hashimoto over three weekly hub layouts (Neon Junction, Yōkai Hideout, Hashimoto Headquarters), with branching paths, Prestige tracks, and exclusive rewards including loot boxes, sprays, titles, and charms.
  • Community Crafted (June 30 – July 13). Arcade mode featuring creator-driven hero reworks from Guxue, Apply, Ocie, and mL7support, with exclusive icons, sprays, charms, and the "Doomscroller" title.
  • Excavation Initiative (June 16 – August 10). Win games on three days each week to complete digs and earn loot boxes, scaling up to a legendary box after six digs in the season.
  • Junkrat's Loot Hunt (July 10 – July 14). Limited-time challenges that unlock loot boxes as you play.

Competitive updates

Hero Bans and coordination received meaningful changes this season:

  • The Roster. Display your top 3 preferred heroes per role to teammates during all pregame phases. Your #1 hero contributes 3 negative votes during Hero Bans.
  • Lobby Bans. A 5th ban slot calculated from votes on both teams combined, able to break the 2-hero role limit when both sides want the same hero gone.
  • Ban Results UI. Updated visuals showing vote weights (7 / 5 / 3) and the new Lobby Ban outcome.
  • Top 500 Challenger Live Replays. All players can watch delayed live replays of ongoing Top 500 Challenger matches, disableable under Social → Privacy → Leaderboards.
